Regional communities are strengthened by participation, shared effort and practical action. Last week in Lockhart, we welcomed our cohort of 15 participants from nine townships across Southern NSW to begin the 2026 Fischer Community Leadership Program.
Led by Program Coordinator Mary Hoodless, day one focused on understanding self as leaders; how we relate, communicate and work with and alongside others. Regional Development Australia Riverina facilitated a highly regarded panel session, inviting the cohort to reflect on lived experiences across the region, and the role leadership plays in shaping communities where all people are valued and included.
The afternoon then welcomed Michael McCormack MP and Justin Clancy MP for a conversation on working constructively with government, and how community voices can engage effectively in decision making.
The program continues next in The Rock, where participants will deepen their understanding of leadership in place, and progress planning of initiatives that reflect the priorities and aspirations of their communities.
Accessible leadership development remains vital to the future of our regions, and we are grateful for the support of Border Trust: Community Foundation Albury Wodonga Region, Sunshine Foundation, Justin Clancy MP, Dr Joe McGirr MP, and Lockhart Shire Council, whose contributions reflect a commitment to the future of the places we live and love.
